Presumibilmente esisteva già al tempo dei Normanni, in origine a croce latina, fu successivamente modificata con l'aggiunta della navata laterale destra, coperta con le volte a crociera, e delle cappelle sulla sinistra. Di particolare pregio l'altare ligneo decorato in oro e l'organo settecentesco, in legno scolpito, di fattura siciliana. Sotto la Chiesa vi è una cripta contenente i corpi (mummificati) dei sacerdoti di Piraino conservati con la tecnica del colatoio.

This church presumably existed at the time of the Normans, it was built originally in the shape of a Latin cross, but it was subsequently modified by the addition of the right aisle, covered with vaults and with chapels on the left. Of particular interestare: the wooden altar decorated in gold and the eighteenth-century organ, carved in wood and made locally. A crypt containing the mummified bodies of the various priests of Piraino, preserved with a leachate technique can be found under the church. (National Geographic did a documentary on these mummies).
